Beaches

Most of the beaches nearby have attained Blue Flag status for cleanliness and facilities. Playa Flamenca beach being the nearest just under the N 332 bridge and to the left then sharp night. has the obligatory sunbeds and canopies for hire between May and September together with a beach hut bar.

La Zenia beach is a little further - turn right onto the N 332 then left at the roundabout. Or there is a nice walk from Playa Flamenca beach around the promontory to the right in front of the clifftop villas.

Cabo Roig is a lovely beach sheltered from the waves by cliffs but it is a very long walk down and even further up. A hard slog in the heat of July and August. To get there turn. right onto the N 332, over the roundabout and 2 km. further Cabo Roig is sign posted to the left - you have to take the slip road to the right and then traverse the main road.

The Mar Menor is one of our favourite areas - it is virtually completely surrounded by land and therefore the waters are always very calm. The water is also supposedly rich in healthy minerals. There are sunbeds, canopies and showers available. The area known as Lo Pagan is very much a traditional Spanish seaside resort - you won't hear many English accents. To get there turn right onto the N 332 and join the A37 motorway at the Dehesa de Campoamor roundabout. Take the Cartagena carriageway and exit at junction 774. Turn right at roundabout past Splash disco and follow the signs to Mar Menor/Lo Pagan. There are many beaches to choose from.
